Back to Chiang Mai, October 2010

What I did…

After meeting up with Dee, Dea and Aom we hired motorbikes (from a different company!) and headed to Tao Tao Lake just north of Chiang Mai. The girls said it was an amazing lake that only Thai people usually see. It was a very nice place as we ate and dangled our feet in the water. We headed back into Chiang Mai and headed to Karaoke. Only this was not what I expected. You got your own booth for you and your friends to enjoy and sing songs too or at each other. We tried to sing some Thai songs but with not being able to read Thai scripture we just followed the girls.

After another hospital trip we hit the night market only to be confronted by an elephant walking down the street towards us. You would think that would be surprising, but it’s really not, the surprising this is the red lights on their tail to indicate they are there to traffic!

We then headed to the all you can eat buffet, again with a twist. All the meat is raw and you get a fire pot on your table to cook your meat and veg on. All very novel and the soup at the end was amazing. Big thumbs up to the DIY BBQ.

Really sad to be leaving Chiang Mai, feel like Ive been here for a lifetime and probably wish I could stay for a lifetime too. It’s just a really nice, welcoming, homely place to be. I think a huge reason we felt so at home there was because of the place we stayed. Libra Guest House is just a quality place to stay. They were so helpful with every aspect of our trip and did not try selling us things all the time. Anyway I could go on and on but if your going to Chiang Mai… stay there!

After catching a very bumpy and long train from the border between Brazil and Bolivia we arrived in Santa Cruz knowing time wasn’t on our side. We caught a taxi to the centre and found a cheap hostel with some dodgy beds and set about finding breakfast. We found a mercado (market) that was, on […]
