Hanoi, Vietnam, November 2010

What I did…

Arrived in Hanoi after the mega 24 hour coach journey and instantly met Dean, Steve and our two favorite girls… what were they called again? Aaahhhh Brogan and Laura. We all got into the same guest house and, apart from Dean who was on a tight schedule, we stuck together like glue!

1st night we all went out for food and then hit a bar to play ‘At the races’ which is one of the best drinking games. We had a little crowd gathered around our table watching us play! After a few games Dean split to watch the Liverpool game and we all headed off to a nightclub. Brogan introduced me to Baby Guiness and after a few of those we were in the mood for throwing shapes across the dance floor. On the way back Steve jumped on a bike with two Vietnamese girls thinking his luck was in. They robbed him! Nothing more, nothing less, he just got robbed! Unlucky my friend.

Next day after a crazy stroll around Hanoi we booked our trip to Halong Bay. Me, Brogan, Laura, Jase and Ed all booked up to go together. The traffic in Hanoi is crazy, I mean there are no islands, stop signs are ignored at junctions if there even is one there. Motorbikes are just everywhere! Trying to cross the road is a game of chicken in itself! That night we tried to find snake village on our own but failed to find the one we were looking for, still got a great video of a King Cobra striking at it’s handler and almost striking at me and my camera! Back to the room and after me and Laura sorted out a complete deck of cards from 4 packs of halves, we then decided it would be funny if me, Brogan and Laura threw the remaining cards off our 3rd story balcony… we were right, it was fun!

After catching a very bumpy and long train from the border between Brazil and Bolivia we arrived in Santa Cruz knowing time wasn’t on our side. We caught a taxi to the centre and found a cheap hostel with some dodgy beds and set about finding breakfast. We found a mercado (market) that was, on […]
