Kep, Cambodia, March 2011

What I did…

I arrived in Kep after a 4 hour bus ride which was uneventful apart from me keep thinking we were going to get hi-jacked and robbed due to all the old, rich, German tourists around me. I got a moto-taxi for a $1 to help me find cheap accommodation. All the cheap places were full so I ended up paying $10 for a room. I had a stroll into town to see what was about and to see the start of the music festival that was in town for one day only. They were setting up as I go there with a ‘DJ’ playing tracks off one of his two decks. I honestly don’t think he knew how to use them and the sound quality was poor. But they were setting up so I let them off for now, it was only 3PM.

After a trip to the pharmacy for more malaria tablets I made my way to the internet as there was little else to do. I ate some cheap local food and by that time it was 9PM and I assumed the festival would be in full flow. I could not be more wrong/right at the same time!

I grabbed myself an Angkor beer and headed to the one and only stage on the beach crowded with locals and old German tourists. The heavy metal band were a treat constantly telling us to F-off. So that’s exactly what I did and made my way back to my guest house to chill out before my boat to Rabbit Island the next morning.

After catching a very bumpy and long train from the border between Brazil and Bolivia we arrived in Santa Cruz knowing time wasn’t on our side. We caught a taxi to the centre and found a cheap hostel with some dodgy beds and set about finding breakfast. We found a mercado (market) that was, on […]
