Photo of the Week, Rabbit Island

May 27, 2011 by Jack 1 Comment

This photo was taken on Rabbit Island just off the coast of mainland Cambodia. Rabbit Island, as you can tell, is a beautiful little island and you can still see Cambodia when you’re there. The hills in the background of this photo are Cambodia. When you arrive on Rabbit Island you instantly see that it is a paradise.

You jump off a long-tail boat and find your basic beach hut and settle into chilling out in the sun, reading and listening to music. It’s the perfect place to relax and get away from all the mod cons. Electricity only comes on from 9PM until 12AM so make sure you have a torch. My hut, the cheapest, had no shower but there was a communal shower in the middle of a few huts. There is no internet connection on the island so you can completely get away from everything.

If you ever get chance to go make sure you trek around the island. It’s about a 2 hour walk but so much fun. I managed to get lost and ended up having to wade through the sea! I saw the most amazing sunset there and fully recharged before tackling the rest of Cambodia. Make sure you take plenty to read as you will be stuck for things to do and the electricity can’t be relied on to charge the iPod/MP3 player.

After catching a very bumpy and long train from the border between Brazil and Bolivia we arrived in Santa Cruz knowing time wasn’t on our side. We caught a taxi to the centre and found a cheap hostel with some dodgy beds and set about finding breakfast. We found a mercado (market) that was, on […]
